Dear Members,

Over the past few months, a selection committee comprised of Troon Leadership and your Board of Directors has conducted a nationwide search to identify the right candidate for serve as General Manager of PGCC. The search yielded over 170 applicants, including current and former PGCC leaders. Fifteen viable candidates were identified and screened, and five finalists were personally interviewed by the selection committee.

After careful consideration and with the unanimous support of the Board, Troon has selected Tom Tripoli to serve as the new General Manager of Parkland Golf & Country Club.  Tom began his career in the …

Dear PGCC Members,

The PGCC Golf Maintenance Team completed an extremely successful first summer maintenance closure.  I would like to express my gratitude to Devin June and the entire Agronomy Team for their exceptional dedication and effort.  They worked tirelessly to ensure all necessary cultural practices were accomplished despite encountering extremely hot temperatures and the occasional downpour.

Closure Recap

Greens

  • All putting surfaces were verticut in two directions followed by topdressing with sand.

Tees

  • All tees including the Practice Facility tees were aerified and verticut.  Tees were then circle cut followed by topdressing with sand.

Fairways & Approaches

  • Fairways & Approaches were aerified followed by verticutting.  Upon completion of vacuuming debris, the turfgrass was circle cut followed by topdressing with sand.
  • PGCC received over 7 inches of rain during the week of June 10th.  Although the rain was certainly welcome after not receiving any in almost two months, topdressing of fairways was not finished.  4 holes remain and will be completed on Monday, June 17 weather permitting.

Roughs

  • All roughs on the golf course were aerified.

Collar Project

Collars on Holes 1-18 & the Short Game Practice Area were re-sodded during the 1st maintenance closure.

  • Non-Tif Eagle turf grass was sprayed with a nonselective herbicide

  • Collars were sod cut removing all existing turfgrass
  • New Tif Eagle Sod was installed

With the resodding of collars, golfers can expect the following:

  • Collars will be played as Ground Under Repair for a brief period of time.
  • The turfgrass will begin to root after 5-7 days.  Once roots are established, mowing practices will commence.
  • Golfers will encounter maintenance team members hand-watering the newly sodded collars throughout the day.  Frequent hand-watering is critical to the establishment of the turfgrass.
  • Topdressing with sand will be a continuing practice to assist in smoothing the surface.

Plugging of Non Tif Eagle turf in the putting surfaces will commence on our next closed Monday.  It is our expectation to have this portion of the project completed by the end of our second maintenance closure July 8 – July 15.

Auxiliary Tee Mowing

  • New auxiliary forward tees were mowed on Holes 1, 4, and 5.  These tees were part of Greg Letsche’s design.  Tee markers will be placed on these tees at certain times providing variety to tee shots and increasing the overall enjoyment of playing the golf course.

Synthetic Turf Mats

  • Golfers will be required to utilize the synthetic turf hitting mats on the Driving Range upon reopening of the golf course.  Normal driving range tee usage will resume on Tuesday, June 25.
  • Both the main and back driving range tees were aerified, verticut, and topdressed.  Restricting use on these tees will allow them to heal properly.

With the golf course reopening, the maintenance team will shift their focus back to normal maintenance practices such as spraying of landscape beds and detail tasks.  Although the normal maintenance practices are important, completion of the necessary cultural practices takes priority during the closures.

As we continue through the summer months, it is important to recognize that although the cultural practices completed on the golf course pose a temporary inconvenience, they play a vital role in the overall health of the turfgrass and ensure the longevity of the golf course.

The Agronomy Team appreciates your ongoing support.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Thank you,

Joe Postel

Dear Parkland Golf & Country Club Members,

Over the weekend PGCC suffered a terrible loss with the passing of our neighbor, friend and longtime board colleague, Calvin Miller. Cal and his beloved wife Susan moved to PGCC in 2012, living first in the Caseras and then on Sweet Bay, where they built a reputation as wonderful neighbors who were always the first to pitch in and offer a hand, no matter what the need.

Among his board partners, Cal was known as a fierce defender of our community and its residents. While on a personal level one will never meet …
